OVERVIEW

The graduate diploma in social psychology and counseling is a practically oriented and stimulating program designed for candidates with little or no prior counseling or psychology knowledge. The program provides a general background of social psychology as a discipline and of the impact of social psychology on our society. The program will help candidates acquire practical hands-on skills, which are essential for being an effective counsellor across various community and social services.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The aim of this program is to provide relevant trainings to equip graduates with the skills to advance their careers in community work, teaching, human resources, social work, counseling, and career advisory. The program aims to equip students with

  • A good understanding of the history and use of social psychology in our society.
  • Ability to evaluate critically a range of different counselling theories and approaches.
  • Professional competency to work with adults in a variety of settings.
  • Opportunities for participants to enhance their personal growth and to heighten awareness of others around them
  • Consistent and transferable knowledge and skills within the field of study to prepare students for graduate employment.

This program is also suitable for people from a wide variety of professional fields and backgrounds who require greater competency in the application of counselling theory and practice. This program is ideal for non-psychology professionals who are keen to explore career opportunities in therapy fields such as social work, caretaking, psychology, psychotherapy, psychiatry, medical doctors, and many other multidisciplinary therapy and non-therapy positions.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

This is a 6 months part-time program comprising of 4 modules. This program are tailored for working professionals and classes are conducted on weekdays evening from 7.00pm to 10.00pm. Each module is supported with 24 contact hours of face to face lectures conducted by our experienced faculty.

AWARDS & RECOGNITIONS

The Graduate Diploma in Social Psychology & Counselling is awarded by Aventis School of Management. Graduates will be allowed to use the designatory letters "Grad Dip Psy" after their name upon completion of the program. Aventis School of Management is one of the 5 business schools in Singapore approved as members of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) that is recognized globally as an accreditation body for quality in management education and has established accreditation services for business schools and business school programs, corporate universities and technology-enhanced learning programs.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

All applicants must possess:

  • A degree or a similar professional qualification from a recognized university/institution OR
  • A diploma from a polytechnic with at least 3 years of working experience
  • Senior executives with extensive experience but without academic qualification may be considered on a case to case basis

Interested applicants are required to submit the following:

  • Your detailed Profile – Most Updated Curriculum vitae
  • Application processing fee of S$107 (non-refundable)

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Participants may enrol and attend any of the modules for the acquisition of knowledge in a particular discipline. An executive certificate will be awarded for students that have fulfilled at least 75% attendance for that enrolled module.
  • For participants that have enrolled and attended any of the modules for the acquisition of knowledge in a particular discipline, they will be issued with an executive certificate if they fulfil at least 75% attendance.
